McCain plans major speech tonight
Not willing to cede the spotlight entirely to Barack Obama, who hopes to declare himself the Democratic nominee tonight, Republican John McCain plans a big prime-time speech of his own tonight.
The presumptive GOP nominee plans to speak at 9 p.m. in Kenner, La., with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, one of those thought to be on McCain's consider list for a running mate.
McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt likely gave something of a preview of the hard-hitting address, calling him not tough enough to stand up for taxpayers on the farm bill, naive enough to pursue a dangerous policy in the Middle East, and arrogant enough to believe that he could "charm his way" into getting Iran to change its policies.
