Elisabeth Hasselbeck plans to attend Republican National Convention

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the co-hosts of "The View," is a favorite target of certain critics, gossip columns and bloggers, who seemingly love to pick apart every on-air comment she makes.

Pick as they may, she's not losing any sleep over the extra attention."If a blogger's picking it up or the gossip sites are picking it up, go have fun," she told the Daily News. "I don't read them anyway. I really try to stay away form that. I'd rather read kids' books than any of the gossips that are going to be attacking me for my opinion. It's just mine. You don't have to have it."

As a mother of two, Hasselbeck actually spends a lot of time reading childrens' books. And she did so last week, during "The View's" August break, at a McDonald's in support of the company's "Check It Out" program, which encourages kids to use libraries. She's spent most of the down time writing a book on living a gluten-free life (she has celiac disease), and if Gustav doesn't intervene, she'll be heading to St. Paul on Thursday for the Republican National Convention.

If that goes as she expects, Hasselbeck will fly out and back on the same day.
She's got an event with Cindy McCain planned and will shoot a piece for "The View."

"I must really want John McCain elected," said Hasselbeck, a staunch conservative, "because I would not get on a plane like that for anyone else."

Defending the Bush administration and conservative values has gotten Hasselbeck into a bunch of verbal battles on "The View."

That's part of the beauty of the program, she said."It's quite invigorating to sit there with the ladies and have heated discussions - they don't call it 'Hot Topics' for any other reason," she said."The reason it can go to those corners that are a little more energized, we'll call them, is because we have such respect for each other. ... We are people who want to have a good conversation and respect one another and know we can go there, go as far so we can touch the edge of that talk, and always come back to center, because we're friends."

"The View," which has been in reruns, returns with new editions tomorrow at 11 a.m. on WABC/Ch. 7."I think 'The View' is going to be the spot to get a comfortable conversation going on what's happening in this election," Hasselbeck said. source: nydailynews
