In a move that may be symbolically indicative of the party’s plight, top Republicans will hold a private meeting on December 15th at St. Anselm College to “discuss strategies” that they “as Republicans can use to move forward to 2010,” according to an e-mail invitation obtained by NowHampshire.com.
Though meeting organizers claim the meeting is “meant to be inclusive, provide information and increase communication within our network of Republican friends in the state,” the invitation also contains a disclaimer that reads, “[t]his event is not open to the public and the organizers reserve the right to limit admission.”
The event, which appears to have been organized by Republican consultants Neil Levesque and Jim Merrill will feature top-level speakers, including Senator Judd Gregg, Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta, current GOP Chairman Fergus Cullen and former Governor John H. Sununu.
One disaffected conservative activist who was not invited to the meeting and who has all but given up on the party told NowHampshire.com, “their list of ‘Republican friends’ grows smaller every year.”
